Job Overview
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Telecommunications Infrastructure Technician to join our Network Operations team in Mzuzu. This role is critical to ensuring the stability, reliability, and continuous improvement of our cellular and data networks. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various telecommunications equipment, including base stations, microwave links, and fiber optic components. This is a hands-on technical role that requires a deep understanding of radio frequency (RF) principles and network hardware. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on base station equipment and towers to ensure maximum uptime.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software faults in the telecommunications network infrastructure.
- Install and configure new microwave links, antennas, and power backup systems (batteries and generators).
- Conduct site surveys and technical assessments for new infrastructure deployments.
- Collaborate with the Network Operations Center (NOC) to monitor network performance and respond to alarms.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and site logs for all maintenance activities.
- Ensure all work complies with strict health and safety standards and environmental regulations.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in testing and calibrating telecommunications equipment using specialized tools.
- Strong understanding of RF propagation and microwave transmission technologies.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical diagrams and engineering blueprints.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in field environments.
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and site managers.
- Physical fitness and the ability to work at heights or in challenging outdoor conditions.
Education
A minimum of a Diploma in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field is required. Certification in specialized networking technologies or RF engineering is highly advantageous.
Experience
Candidates must possess at least 3 to 5 years of practical experience in telecommunications infrastructure maintenance or field engineering. Salary
