Job Overview
The Network Planning Specialist will play a pivotal role in designing, optimizing, and expanding Vodafone Malawi’s mobile and fixed‑line network infrastructure. Reporting to the Head of Network Operations, the specialist will analyze traffic patterns, forecast demand, and develop strategic plans to enhance coverage, capacity, and quality of service. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network planning models for 2G, 3G, 4G, and emerging 5G technologies.
- Conduct capacity forecasting and traffic analysis to anticipate future demand across urban and rural areas.
- Design optimal site locations, antenna configurations, and backhaul solutions to maximize coverage and quality.
- Prepare detailed technical specifications, cost estimates, and implementation timelines for network expansion projects.
- Collaborate with RF engineers, civil teams, and vendors to ensure seamless project execution.
- Monitor network performance KPIs, identify bottlenecks, and propose optimization measures.
- Ensure compliance with national telecommunications regulations and industry standards.
- Present planning proposals and progress reports to senior management and stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of RF planning tools (e.g., Atoll, Planet, Mentum).
- Proficiency in GIS mapping and data analysis software.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Project management experience with ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
- Familiarity with Malawi’s regulatory environment and spectrum allocation policies.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in RF planning or network optimization are advantageous.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in telecom network planning, design, or optimization, preferably within a mobile operator environment. Experience with 4G LTE and exposure to 5G planning is highly desirable.
Salary
The annual compensation package ranges from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based incentives and benefits.
