Job Overview

The Senior Mine Safety Engineer will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs across BHP’s mining operations in Malawi. Reporting to the Head of Safety, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with local regulations, international best practices, and BHP’s internal safety policies. This position plays a critical role in protecting personnel, equipment, and the environment, thereby supporting BHP’s strategic objectives and reinforcing its status as a top employer for Malawi Jobs. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and enforce comprehensive mine safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses, and safety audits for all mining activities.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
• Provide technical guidance and training to site personnel on safe work practices.
• Monitor compliance with Malawi mining regulations and international safety standards.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate safety considerations into project designs.
• Prepare and present safety performance reports to senior management and external regulators.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce lost‑time injuries and near‑miss events.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or MSHA are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in mine safety, with at least three years in a senior or supervisory role. Experience in large‑scale mining operations and a proven track record of reducing incident rates are essential.

Salary

The competitive salary range for this position is SSP 2,500,000 to 3,500,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
