Job Overview

The Strategic Business Development Manager will lead the identification, evaluation, and execution of high‑impact business opportunities that align with TotalEnergies’ growth objectives in Malawi. Reporting to the Regional Director, the role involves market analysis, partnership development, and the creation of robust business cases for new projects, including renewable energy integration, downstream expansion, and innovative service offerings. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams, government agencies, and key industry stakeholders to shape the future of energy in Malawi.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive market research to identify emerging trends, competitive dynamics, and potential growth sectors within the Malawian energy market.
  • Develop and present strategic business plans, financial models, and risk assessments for new ventures, including joint ventures, acquisitions, and renewable energy projects.
  • Lead negotiations and establish strategic partnerships with local and international partners, government bodies, and NGOs.
  • Coordinate with the Finance, Legal, and Operations teams to ensure seamless project execution and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor performance of existing business units, recommend optimization strategies, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Represent TotalEnergies at industry conferences, forums, and stakeholder meetings to enhance brand visibility and influence policy discussions.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities with a proven track record of delivering profitable business cases.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Deep understanding of the Energy & Utilities sector, including oil & gas, downstream operations, and renewable energy trends.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast‑paced environment while leading cross‑functional teams.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of Chichewa is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Economics, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or MBA is highly desirable and will be considered an asset.

Experience

Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in business development, strategic planning, or commercial management within the energy sector. Experience working in emerging markets, particularly in Sub‑Saharan Africa, is preferred.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based incentives, health benefits, and a retirement savings scheme.
