Job Overview

We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Food Safety and Quality Assurance Auditor to join our team in Salima. This critical role involves ensuring that all food manufacturing processes, from raw material intake to finished product dispatch, comply with established food safety standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality specifications. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and execute comprehensive internal audits of all food manufacturing processes, hygiene practices, and quality management systems.
  • Conduct supplier audits and raw material evaluations to ensure incoming materials meet specified safety and quality standards.
  • Monitor and verify compliance with HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and other relevant food safety protocols.
  • Investigate quality incidents, customer complaints, and non-conformances to determine root causes and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Prepare detailed audit reports, documenting findings, observations, and recommendations for management review.
  • Liaise with production, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure quality standards are understood and maintained at all stages.
  • Stay updated on local and international food safety regulations (e.g., Malawi Bureau of Standards, CODEX, ISO 22000) and ensure company practices remain compliant.
  • Coordinate and support external audits by regulatory bodies and certification agencies.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on food safety, quality standards, and audit procedures to operational staff.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date quality documentation and records as per regulatory and company requirements.

Required Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of food safety management systems (FSSC 22000, ISO 22000, BRCGS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in audit techniques, risk assessment, and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
  • High level of integrity and ethical standards in handling sensitive quality and safety information.
  • Competence in using quality management software and Microsoft Office applications.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a closely related field is required. Additional professional certifications such as Certified HACCP Auditor, Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), or Lead Auditor training in FSSC 22000/ISO 22000 are highly desirable and will be a significant advantage.

Experience

A minimum of 5-8 years of progressive experience in food safety, quality assurance, or auditing roles within a food manufacturing or processing environment. Proven experience in conducting internal and supplier audits, managing non-conformance processes, and implementing food safety management systems is essential. Experience working within a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) manufacturing setting is preferred.
