Job Overview

The Head of Renewable Energy Asset Financing will lead the financing function for Scatec’s solar portfolio in Malawi. Reporting directly to the Regional CFO, you will be responsible for designing, negotiating, and executing financing structures for new and existing assets, optimizing capital costs, and maintaining strong relationships with investors, lenders, and government agencies. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement financing strategies for solar projects, including debt, equity, and hybrid structures.
  • Lead negotiations with commercial banks, development finance institutions, and private investors to secure optimal funding terms.
  • Oversee financial modeling, risk assessment, and due diligence for new project pipelines.
  • Manage the asset financing lifecycle, from initial structuring to ongoing covenant compliance and refinancing.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to align financing plans with project schedules, technical specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and present detailed financing proposals and board‑level reports to senior leadership and external partners.
  • Monitor market trends, policy changes, and funding opportunities within the renewable energy sector in Malawi and the broader region.
  • Ensure compliance with local tax, accounting, and reporting standards, as well as international ESG criteria.

Required Skills

  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in renewable energy project finance, preferably solar.
  • Proven track record of structuring large‑scale financing deals ranging from USD 50 million to USD 300 million.
  • Strong analytical skills with expertise in financial modeling, sensitivity analysis, and scenario planning.
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management abilities.
  • In‑depth knowledge of Malawi’s regulatory environment, tax incentives, and power purchase agreements.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Chichewa is an advantage.
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to mentor junior finance staff.

Education

A Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CFA, CPA, or FRM are highly desirable and demonstrate a commitment to financial excellence.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten years of progressive experience in renewable energy finance, including hands‑on involvement in debt and equity fundraising, asset management, and financial risk mitigation. Experience working with multilateral development banks, export credit agencies, or sovereign wealth funds is a strong plus.

Salary
