We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Engineer to join our technical services team in Ntcheu, Malawi. Key Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and calibration on a diverse portfolio of biomedical equipment according to manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex technical faults in medical devices, ensuring minimal disruption to clinical operations.
• Maintain accurate and detailed service reports, equipment histories, and parts inventory using our digital service management platform.
• Provide technical training and support to hospital staff on the proper operation and basic troubleshooting of medical equipment.
• Coordinate with the regional parts logistics team to ensure timely availability of critical spare parts and components.
• Ensure all service activities comply with local medical device regulations, safety standards, and Philips Quality Management System.
• Participate in the installation and commissioning of new medical equipment, including site preparation verification and performance testing.
• Act as the primary technical liaison for assigned healthcare facilities, building strong relationships with key stakeholders.
• Stay updated on new product technologies, service procedures, and industry best practices through continuous training.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing complex electromechanical and software-based systems.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and specialized biomedical test equipment.
• Excellent knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and clinical applications as they relate to medical device functionality.
• Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, service manuals, and engineering drawings.

• High level of computer literacy, including experience with device networking and healthcare IT systems.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field is required. Candidates with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Biomedical Equipment Technology and significant relevant experience may also be considered. Professional certifications from recognized bodies such as the International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology (ICC) or equivalent are a significant advantage. Ongoing education in emerging medical technologies is highly valued.

Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of sophisticated biomedical equipment is essential. This experience should include working with diagnostic imaging (X-ray, Ultrasound), patient monitoring systems, life support equipment, and laboratory analyzers. Prior experience working directly within a hospital biomedical engineering department or for a major medical device OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) is strongly preferred. Experience in a field service role, managing a territory and customer relationships, is highly desirable.
