Job Overview

The Credit Portfolio Analyst will play a pivotal role in monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing the bank’s credit portfolio. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of existing credit exposures across retail, SME, and corporate segments.
  • Prepare regular portfolio risk reports, highlighting concentration risks, delinquency trends, and early warning indicators.
  • Collaborate with credit officers to develop mitigation strategies for high‑risk accounts.
  • Support the development and refinement of credit scoring models and underwriting guidelines.
  • Assist in stress‑testing exercises and scenario analysis to evaluate portfolio resilience.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior management and the Credit Committee.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory capital requirements and internal risk limits.
  • Contribute to the design of new credit products that align with market demand and risk appetite.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and statistical skills with proficiency in Excel, SQL, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • In‑depth understanding of credit risk concepts, financial statement analysis, and loan structuring.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report preparation and stakeholder presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Attention to detail, problem‑solving mindset, and proactive approach to risk identification.
  • Knowledge of Malawi’s banking regulations and Basel III requirements is an advantage.

Education

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CFA, FRM, or CPA are highly desirable and will be considered a strong asset.

Experience

Candidates should possess 3‑5 years of relevant experience in credit analysis, portfolio management, or risk assessment within a banking or financial services environment. Experience with loan monitoring systems and exposure to emerging market credit environments will be valued.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentives are also part of the total rewards structure.
