Job Overview
As the Data Science Lead, you will spearhead the development and implementation of cutting‑edge data analytics and machine learning initiatives that support Microsoft’s strategic objectives in Malawi. Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of data scientists and analysts to design, develop, and deploy machine learning models.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and business units to translate business challenges into data solutions.
- Define data strategy, governance, and best practices for data collection, storage, and processing.
- Drive the creation of dashboards, visualizations, and reports for senior leadership.
- Mentor junior team members and foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- Stay abreast of emerging AI/ML technologies and integrate them into Microsoft’s offerings in Malawi.
Required Skills
- Expertise in Python, R, SQL, and big data platforms (Spark, Hadoop).
- Proven experience with cloud services, preferably Azure Machine Learning.
- Strong statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and deep learning capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Leadership experience managing multidisciplinary data teams.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multicultural environment.
Education
A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline is required. Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Scientist Associate are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in data science, with at least three years in a leadership or managerial capacity. Demonstrated success in delivering large‑scale analytics projects in emerging markets is a plus.
Salary
The competitive salary range for this role is SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 3,500,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may apply.
