Job Overview

The Mine Rehabilitation Manager will lead the planning, execution, and monitoring of all rehabilitation activities for Anglo American’s Kasungu mining operations. Reporting to the Senior Operations Director, the role is responsible for developing comprehensive rehabilitation plans that meet regulatory requirements, corporate sustainability targets, and community expectations. The manager will collaborate closely with geologists, environmental scientists, community liaison officers, and external contractors to restore mined land to productive use, whether for agriculture, wildlife habitat, or community development. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive mine rehabilitation plans in line with Malawi’s environmental regulations and Anglo American’s sustainability framework.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams—including geotechnical engineers, ecologists, and community representatives—to ensure timely execution of rehabilitation activities.
• Monitor and report on rehabilitation progress, using GIS mapping, soil testing, and vegetation surveys to assess ecological recovery.
• Manage relationships with local authorities, NGOs, and community groups to align rehabilitation outcomes with local development priorities.
• Prepare and submit detailed rehabilitation reports to regulatory bodies, ensuring full compliance and transparency.
• Oversee budgeting, procurement, and contract management for rehabilitation contractors and service providers.
• Identify and mitigate potential environmental risks associated with rehabilitation activities, implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives, incorporating innovative reclamation techniques and best‑practice technologies.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of mine closure and land reclamation principles, including soil stabilization, re‑vegetation, and water management.
• Excellent project management abilities with a proven track record of delivering complex, multi‑stakeholder projects on time and within budget.
• Proficiency in GIS, environmental monitoring software, and data analysis tools.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills for engaging with government agencies, NGOs, and local communities.
• Leadership experience in managing cross‑functional teams and external contractors.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certification in environmental management, sustainable development, or project management is highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in mining operations, with at least three (3) years focused on rehabilitation, closure, or environmental management. Prior experience working in Malawi or other Southern African mining contexts is an advantage.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive annual salary ranging from SSP 5,000,000 to SSP 8,000,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a pension scheme.
