Job Overview
The Senior Water Resources Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of large‑scale water supply and sanitation projects across Chikwawa District. This role involves technical oversight of hydraulic modeling, watershed analysis, and the integration of renewable energy solutions for water pumping. The successful candidate will work closely with local authorities, community leaders, and international consultants to ensure that project deliverables meet World Bank standards and align with national development goals. Key Responsibilities
- Lead feasibility studies, hydraulic simulations, and environmental impact assessments for water infrastructure projects.
- Develop detailed engineering designs for pipelines, treatment plants, storage reservoirs, and flood control structures.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including civil engineers, hydrologists, GIS specialists, and community outreach officers.
- Ensure compliance with World Bank environmental and social safeguard policies.
- Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and progress dashboards for donors and government stakeholders.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide capacity‑building workshops for local government staff.
- Monitor construction activities, conduct site inspections, and resolve technical issues promptly.
- Facilitate community engagement sessions to incorporate local knowledge into project design.
Required Skills
- Advanced proficiency in water resources modeling software (e.g., HEC‑RAS, SWAT, EPANET).
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic design standards and sanitation best practices.
- Excellent project management abilities, including budgeting and scheduling.
- Effective communication skills in English; proficiency in Chichewa is an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience working with international development agencies.
- Ability to analyze complex data sets and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
Education
A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a closely related discipline from an accredited university is required. Professional certifications such as PMP, CWI, or equivalent are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in water resources engineering, with at least three (3) years in a senior or lead role on large‑scale infrastructure projects in developing countries. Experience in the Southern African region, particularly Malawi, will be considered a strong asset.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 3,500,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
