Job Overview

The Wind Farm Operations Manager will be responsible for the overall performance, reliability, and safety of the Thyolo wind farm throughout its lifecycle. Reporting to the Regional Operations Director, you will oversee day‑to‑day operations, coordinate maintenance activities, manage a multidisciplinary team, and ensure compliance with local regulations and Vestas’ global standards. The role demands strong leadership, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to optimizing turbine availability and energy production. You will act as the primary liaison between Vestas, local stakeholders, and regulatory bodies, fostering transparent communication and collaborative problem‑solving. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the operations team, including technicians, engineers, and contractors, ensuring high performance and safety standards.
  • Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance plans to maximize turbine availability and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor real‑time performance data, analyze trends, and initiate corrective actions to meet production targets.
  • Ensure compliance with Malawian environmental, health, and safety regulations as well as Vestas’ internal policies.
  • Coordinate with the local utility and grid operator to manage power curtailments, outages, and grid integration issues.
  • Prepare and present operational reports, KPI dashboards, and financial summaries to senior management.
  • Manage the operational budget, procurement of spare parts, and vendor contracts.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging data analytics and industry best practices.
  • Engage with local communities and stakeholders to promote the benefits of wind energy and address any concerns.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of wind turbine technology, SCADA systems, and asset management software.
  • Proven leadership and team‑building abilities in a multicultural environment.

Education

Experience

Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in wind farm operations, maintenance management, or renewable energy asset management. Experience in African markets, particularly in sub‑Saharan regions, is a strong advantage.

Salary

The competitive salary range for this role is SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 3,500,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. A performance‑based bonus structure is also available.
