Job Overview
This role is part of SolarAid’s expanding renewable energy initiative in southern Malawi. The Solar Energy Systems Engineer will lead the design, installation, and maintenance of solar power solutions tailored to rural communities. The position requires collaboration with local stakeholders, government agencies, and international partners to advance Malawi’s clean energy goals.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement solar energy systems for residential, commercial, and public sector clients.
- Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for solar projects in rural Malawi.
- Manage end-to-end project lifecycle, including procurement, installation, and commissioning.
- Provide technical training to local technicians and community members on solar system maintenance.
- Collaborate with government bodies to ensure compliance with national energy regulations.
- Monitor system performance and resolve technical issues promptly.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in solar photovoltaic (PV) system design and engineering.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems and renewable energy technologies.
- Project management experience in remote or resource-limited environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
- Proficiency in CAD software and energy modeling tools.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to dynamic field conditions.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field.
- Professional certification in solar energy systems (e.g., NABCEP) is an advantage.
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in solar energy engineering or similar roles.
- Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa or developing regions preferred.
Salary
An annual salary of 1,500,000 – 2,500,000 SSP, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
