Job Overview

The Renewable Energy Policy Analyst will lead research, analysis, and formulation of policies that promote renewable energy deployment across Malawi. Working within the Policy & Advocacy department, you will provide evidence‑based recommendations to government agencies, investors, and development partners. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive analysis of Malawi’s renewable energy regulatory environment, identifying gaps and opportunities.
• Develop policy briefs, white papers, and legislative proposals that advance solar, wind, hydro, and bioenergy projects.
• Engage with ministries, utility companies, NGOs, and private investors to facilitate stakeholder consensus.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of implemented policies, providing data‑driven insights for continuous improvement.
• Support the design of financing mechanisms, including green bonds and concessional loans, to attract private capital.
• Prepare presentations and reports for senior leadership, donors, and international forums.
• Collaborate with research institutions to incorporate the latest technological and market trends.
• Contribute to the World Bank Group’s knowledge base on renewable energy policy in Sub‑Saharan Africa.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating complex concepts for diverse audiences.
• Deep understanding of renewable energy technologies, market dynamics, and climate policy.
• Experience in policy drafting, regulatory analysis, and stakeholder negotiation.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools such as STATA, R, or Python.
• Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Chichewa is an advantage.

Education

A Master’s degree in Public Policy, Energy Management, Environmental Studies, Economics, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with additional certifications in climate finance or renewable energy systems are highly regarded.

Experience

Applicants must have at least five years of relevant experience in energy policy, regulatory affairs, or sustainable development, preferably within the African context. Experience working with international development agencies, government ministries, or private sector energy firms will be considered a strong asset.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 2,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The compensation package aligns with World Bank Group standards for senior policy professionals in Malawi.
