Job Overview
This role is part of Schneider Electric’s mission to expand energy access in underserved Malawian communities. The Rural Energy Access Consultant will design and implement decentralized renewable energy systems, including solar microgrids and mini-hydro projects, while collaborating with local governments, NGOs, and private stakeholders. The position emphasizes capacity-building partnerships to ensure long-term project sustainability and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct feasibility studies for rural electrification projects, assessing technical, economic, and social viability.
- Develop project proposals and secure funding from international donors, including the World Bank and African Development Bank.
- Coordinate with local engineers and technicians to design and deploy off-grid renewable energy systems.
- Train community leaders and stakeholders on energy system maintenance and financial management.
- Monitor project performance and report outcomes to internal and external stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in renewable energy project consulting, with a focus on rural development.
- Strong analytical skills for energy demand forecasting and resource assessment.
- Excellent stakeholder management and cross-cultural communication abilities.
- Proficiency in energy modeling software (e.g., HOMER, RETScreen) and GIS tools.
- Knowledge of Malawi’s energy policies and regulatory frameworks.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Master’s degree preferred, with a focus on Sustainable Energy or Rural Development.
Experience
- 3-5 years in renewable energy project consulting, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Experience managing multi-stakeholder partnerships and securing project funding.
Salary
- 1,200,000 – 1,800,000 SSP annually, commensurate with experience.
