Job Overview

The Satellite Communications Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining satellite communication systems that support Huawei’s network services in Malawi and the surrounding region. This role involves close collaboration with cross‑functional teams, including network planning, RF optimization, and field operations, to ensure seamless integration of satellite links with terrestrial networks. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and configure satellite communication architectures, including VSAT, GEO, and LEO constellations, to meet network capacity and reliability requirements.
  • Perform link budget analysis, RF planning, and spectrum management to optimize signal quality and minimize interference.
  • Integrate satellite backhaul solutions with Huawei’s core network equipment, ensuring seamless handover between satellite and terrestrial links.
  • Conduct field trials, performance testing, and validation of satellite equipment, documenting results and recommending improvements.
  • Collaborate with vendors, regulatory bodies, and local partners to secure licensing, frequency allocation, and compliance with national standards.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for satellite link issues, coordinating with field engineers and customer service teams.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and best‑practice guides for satellite operations.
  • Stay abreast of emerging satellite technologies, industry standards, and market trends to drive continuous innovation.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of satellite communication protocols, modulation schemes, and antenna technologies.
  • Proficiency in RF engineering tools such as Satellite Tool Kit (STK), MATLAB, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Experience with network integration, including IP routing, MPLS, and QoS for satellite backhaul.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and analytical thinking for complex link performance issues.
  • Effective communication skills for cross‑team collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work independently in remote field locations and adapt to challenging environments.
  • Familiarity with Malawi’s telecommunications regulatory framework is a plus.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in satellite communications (e.g., Certified Satellite Professional, Cisco CCNA/CCNP for wireless) are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in satellite communications engineering, including design, deployment, and maintenance of satellite links. Prior experience with Huawei equipment or similar ICT solutions will be considered an advantage.

Salary

The competitive salary range for this position is SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
