Job Overview

The IoT Solutions Engineer will lead the design, development, and deployment of end‑to‑end IoT solutions for Huawei’s clients in Malawi and the broader Southern Africa region. This role involves close collaboration with cross‑functional teams, including product management, hardware engineering, software development, and field services, to deliver scalable, secure, and high‑performance IoT platforms. The engineer will also act as a technical advisor to customers, translating business requirements into robust technical architectures while ensuring alignment with Huawei’s standards and best practices. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on innovative projects such as smart farming, intelligent transportation, and energy management, contributing directly to Malawi’s digital economy.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and architect IoT solutions that integrate sensors, gateways, cloud services, and analytics platforms.
• Develop proof‑of‑concept prototypes and pilot projects to validate solution feasibility and performance.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to select appropriate devices, communication protocols, and power management strategies.
• Implement secure data transmission, device authentication, and end‑to‑end encryption to protect customer data.
• Provide technical consultancy and on‑site support to clients throughout the solution lifecycle, from requirement gathering to post‑deployment optimization.
• Work closely with software development teams to integrate IoT data streams into enterprise applications and dashboards.
• Conduct performance testing, troubleshooting, and root‑cause analysis to ensure solution reliability and scalability.
• Stay current with emerging IoT standards, technologies, and market trends to drive continuous innovation.
• Prepare detailed technical documentation, solution briefs, and training materials for internal and external stakeholders.
• Support sales teams with technical presentations, RFP responses, and solution demonstrations.

Required Skills

• Strong expertise in IoT protocols (MQTT, CoAP, LwM2M) and connectivity technologies (LTE‑Cat‑M, NB‑IoT, LoRaWAN, 5G).
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C/C++, and JavaScript for embedded and cloud development.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (Huawei Cloud, AWS, Azure) and data analytics tools.
• Solid understanding of network security principles, PKI, and secure firmware update mechanisms.
• Ability to design scalable architectures using micro‑services, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and edge computing.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong communication and presentation abilities to convey complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
• Project management experience with Agile or Scrum methodologies.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in IoT, cloud platforms, or cybersecurity are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience designing and implementing IoT solutions across multiple industries, preferably with exposure to smart agriculture, industrial automation, or smart city projects.

Salary

The competitive salary range for this role is SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentives are also part of the compensation package.
