Job Overview

The Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager will lead Nestlé Malawi’s food safety program, ensuring compliance with international standards such as ISO 22000, HACCP, and local regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Food Safety Management System (FSMS) in alignment with ISO 22000 and HACCP principles.
  • Lead internal and external audits, ensuring corrective actions are identified, tracked, and closed effectively.
  • Conduct risk assessments, supplier audits, and product testing to guarantee compliance with local and international food safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with Production, R&D, Procurement, and Marketing teams to integrate food safety requirements into product development and manufacturing processes.
  • Provide training and mentorship to staff on food safety protocols, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Monitor and analyze food safety trends, emerging hazards, and regulatory updates to proactively adjust company policies.
  • Prepare detailed reports for senior management, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders on food safety performance.
  • Manage incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of preventive measures.

Required Skills

  • In‑depth knowledge of ISO 22000, HACCP, and local food safety legislation.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a data‑driven approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Leadership experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and driving cultural change.
  • Proficiency in quality management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Nutrition, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as Certified Food Safety Professional (CFSP) or HACCP Lead Auditor are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in food safety and quality assurance within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food and beverage sector. Experience managing large‑scale audit programs, leading cross‑functional projects, and interacting with regulatory authorities is essential.

Salary
