Job Overview

The Network Optimization Engineer will be responsible for planning, designing, and optimizing Vodafone Malawi’s radio access network (RAN) to ensure optimal performance, coverage, and capacity. This role involves analyzing network data, conducting drive tests, and implementing optimization strategies that improve quality of service for our customers. Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze network performance metrics, drive‑test data, and customer feedback to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Develop and implement radio parameter adjustments, antenna tilts, and power settings to improve coverage and capacity.
  • Collaborate with the Radio Planning team to design and validate network expansion projects.
  • Perform regular audits of the RAN, including LTE, 5G, and legacy technologies, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Generate detailed optimization reports and present findings to senior management and technical stakeholders.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as RRC success rate, handover success, and throughput, and propose corrective actions.
  • Support the rollout of new technologies and features, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in network analysis tools (e.g., Atoll, Mentum Planet, TEMS).
  • In‑depth understanding of LTE, 5G NR, and GSM/UMTS technologies.
  • Experience with drive‑test equipment and data processing.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple optimization projects simultaneously.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is required. Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Nokia NRS, or equivalent are advantageous.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in network planning, optimization, or RF engineering within a telecom operator or a consulting firm serving the telecom sector. Experience with both 4G LTE and emerging 5G networks is highly desirable.

Salary

The role offers a competitive salary ranging from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentives are also part of the compensation package.
