Job Overview
The Senior Credit Risk Analyst will lead the assessment, monitoring, and mitigation of credit risk across the bank’s loan portfolio in Malawi. Reporting to the Head of Credit Risk, the incumbent will develop risk models, conduct portfolio reviews, and provide strategic recommendations to senior management. This role is pivotal in ensuring the bank’s credit exposure aligns with regulatory standards and internal risk appetite, thereby safeguarding asset quality and profitability. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain credit risk rating models and scoring systems tailored to the Malawian market.
- Conduct comprehensive credit reviews for new and existing corporate and SME borrowers, ensuring adherence to the bank’s risk policies.
- Monitor portfolio performance, identify emerging risk trends, and produce regular risk dashboards for senior leadership.
- Collaborate with product and relationship teams to structure credit facilities that balance client needs with risk mitigation.
- Prepare detailed risk assessment reports, including stress testing and scenario analysis, to support strategic decision‑making.
- Ensure compliance with Basel III, local regulatory requirements, and internal risk appetite frameworks.
- Lead a small team of junior analysts, providing mentorship, training, and performance feedback.
- Participate in credit committees, presenting findings and recommendations to the board and risk committees.
Required Skills
- Advanced proficiency in credit risk modeling techniques, statistical analysis, and financial statement analysis.
- Strong knowledge of banking regulations in Malawi and international risk standards.
- Expertise in risk management software such as SAS, R, Python, or similar analytical tools.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of influencing senior stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Leadership abilities with experience managing junior analysts or cross‑functional teams.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline is required. A master’s degree or professional certifications such as CFA, FRM, or PRM are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
The ideal candidate will have at least eight years of progressive experience in credit risk analysis within a banking environment, with a proven track record of developing risk models and managing large loan portfolios. Experience in the African banking sector, particularly in Malawi, is preferred.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 3,500,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a pension scheme.
