Job Overview
The Senior Marine Fisheries Data Analyst will lead the collection, analysis, and interpretation of marine fisheries data to support sustainable management initiatives and inform policy decisions. This role will work closely with Cargill’s sustainability team, local fisheries cooperatives, and government agencies to develop robust datasets, predictive models, and visual dashboards that drive actionable insights. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing Cargill’s marine stewardship goals while contributing to broader Malawi Jobs and Jobs in Malawi initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement comprehensive data collection protocols for marine catch, effort, and by‑catch across Thyolo’s coastal and inland water bodies.
- Develop and maintain GIS‑based spatial databases to map fishing zones, habitats, and resource utilization patterns.
- Perform advanced statistical analyses and predictive modeling to assess stock health, migration trends, and climate impacts.
- Create interactive dashboards and visual reports for stakeholders, including government ministries, NGOs, and community leaders.
- Collaborate with Cargill’s sustainability and supply‑chain teams to integrate fisheries data into broader environmental and commercial strategies.
- Provide technical training and capacity‑building workshops for local fisheries officers and cooperative members.
- Ensure data quality, compliance with international standards, and confidentiality of sensitive information.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in statistical software (R, Python, SAS) and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).
- Strong GIS expertise with ArcGIS or QGIS for spatial analysis.
- In‑depth knowledge of marine fisheries science, stock assessment methods, and ecosystem‑based management.
- Excellent communication skills for presenting complex data to non‑technical audiences.
- Project management experience, including stakeholder coordination and timeline adherence.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology, Fisheries Science, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or higher is strongly preferred, especially with a focus on quantitative analysis, marine resource economics, or environmental data science.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of professional experience in marine fisheries data analysis, statistical modeling, and GIS applications. Salary
