Job Overview

The Senior Policy Analyst will lead the research, analysis and formulation of strategic policies that align with Malawi’s national development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive policy research and analysis on governance, economic development and social inclusion topics.
  • Develop policy briefs, white papers and strategic recommendations for government ministries and development partners.
  • Lead stakeholder consultations, workshops and round‑tables to gather insights and build consensus.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of implemented policies, providing data‑driven feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Represent UNDP Malawi in national and regional policy forums, conferences and media engagements.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate policy findings into program design and implementation.

Required Skills

  • Advanced analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in statistical software and data visualization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, capable of producing clear, concise policy documents.
  • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
  • Deep understanding of Malawi’s political, economic and social context.
  • Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Chichewa is an advantage.

Education

A Master’s degree in Public Policy, Economics, International Relations, Development Studies or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with a Ph.D. or additional certifications in policy analysis are highly regarded.

Experience

Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience in policy analysis, public sector reform, or international development, preferably within the African context. Experience working with government agencies, NGOs or multilateral organizations is essential.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional allowances may be provided in line with UNDP compensation policies.
