Job Overview
The Sustainability Communications Manager will lead the development and execution of integrated communication strategies that highlight Unilever Malawi’s sustainability initiatives, product innovations, and community impact. Working closely with the Marketing, CSR, and Supply Chain teams, you will craft compelling stories, manage media relations, and ensure alignment with global brand guidelines. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability communications plan that aligns with Unilever’s global objectives and local market priorities.
- Create engaging content for press releases, blog posts, social media, annual sustainability reports, and internal newsletters.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate technical sustainability data into clear, audience‑focused narratives.
- Manage relationships with local media, NGOs, government agencies, and industry associations to amplify Unilever’s sustainability messages.
- Monitor and analyze media coverage, public sentiment, and stakeholder feedback to refine communication tactics.
- Lead the organization of sustainability events, webinars, and community outreach programs.
- Ensure all communications comply with regulatory standards and Unilever’s brand guidelines.
- Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on reputation risk and opportunity areas related to sustainability.
Required Skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex sustainability concepts.
- Strong storytelling ability and experience creating multimedia content.
- Proficiency in digital media tools, content management systems, and analytics platforms.
- Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead cross‑functional projects under tight deadlines.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Environmental Science, Public Relations, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certification in sustainability or ESG reporting is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of proven experience in sustainability communications, corporate communications, or a related field, preferably within a multinational consumer goods or FMCG organization. Experience working in Malawi or other Sub‑Saharan African markets is strongly preferred.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive annual salary ranging from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary reviews are conducted annually based on performance and market benchmarks.
