Job Overview
The Artificial Intelligence Ethics Officer will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of ethical frameworks for AI solutions deployed by Microsoft Malawi and its partners. This role ensures that AI systems are designed, trained, and operated in a manner that respects human rights, privacy, fairness, and transparency. Working closely with product teams, legal counsel, and external stakeholders, the officer will provide guidance on responsible AI practices, conduct impact assessments, and champion ethical AI across the organization. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain an AI ethics framework aligned with international standards such as OECD AI Principles and Microsoft’s Responsible AI guidelines.
- Conduct AI impact assessments for new and existing AI projects, identifying potential risks related to bias, privacy, and societal impact.
- Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to embed ethical considerations throughout the AI lifecycle.
- Provide training and workshops for internal teams on responsible AI practices and ethical decision‑making.
- Engage with regulators, civil society, and academic institutions to stay abreast of emerging AI policies in Malawi and the broader African region.
- Prepare and present regular reports to senior leadership on AI ethics compliance and risk mitigation strategies.
- Lead the establishment of an AI ethics review board and facilitate its operations.
- Advise on data governance, consent management, and privacy‑by‑design principles for AI solutions.
Required Skills
- Deep understanding of AI technologies, machine learning pipelines, and data analytics.
- Strong knowledge of ethical frameworks, human rights law, and privacy regulations.

Experience
Minimum of five years of professional experience in AI development, data science, or technology ethics, with a proven track record of implementing ethical guidelines in real‑world projects. Experience working within multinational technology firms or consulting on AI policy is advantageous.
Salary
