Job Overview

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Hydrogeology Consultant to lead our groundwater assessment initiatives in Northern Malawi. This role is critical for our upcoming large-scale aquifer recharge project. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex groundwater flow and solute transport modeling using industry-standard software.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of large-scale borehole drilling and monitoring programs.
  • Conduct detailed isotopic and geochemical analysis to determine groundwater age and recharge rates.
  • Prepare technical reports for international donors and government regulatory bodies.
  • Supervise junior hydrogeologists and field technicians during site investigations.
  • Advise on the mitigation of saltwater intrusion and chemical contamination in local aquifers.

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in MODFLOW, FEFLOW, or similar groundwater modeling software.
  • Expertise in interpreting geophysical survey data (Electrical Resistivity Tomography).
  • Strong project management skills with experience managing multi-million SSP budgets.
  • Exceptional technical writing skills for scientific and regulatory documentation.
  • Deep understanding of Malawian environmental laws and water management regulations.

Education

A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Hydrogeology, Geological Engineering, or a closely related Earth Science discipline is mandatory. A PhD is highly preferred for this senior-level consultancy role.

Experience

Candidates must demonstrate at least 7 years of professional experience in groundwater investigation, aquifer testing, or hydrological modeling. Proven experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa or in similar tropical geological settings is a significant advantage. You should have a track record of leading field teams in remote environments.

Salary

The monthly salary for this position ranges from 1,200,000 SSP to 1,800,000 SSP, depending on the candidate’s specific technical expertise and previous consultancy experience.
