Job Overview

The Senior Hydrological Modeling Specialist will play a critical role in our water security initiatives. This position involves developing, implementing, and managing complex mathematical models to simulate hydrological processes, including surface water runoff, groundwater recharge, and river discharge. You will provide the scientific foundation for our conservation strategies, helping to predict how climate change and land-use changes will affect water availability in the Ntchowe region. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and calibrate advanced hydrological models to simulate watershed dynamics and groundwater flow.
• Analyze large datasets from field sensors and satellite imagery to monitor water levels and quality.
• Collaborate with local government agencies and community leaders to integrate scientific findings into water management policies.
• Produce technical reports and scientific publications to communicate findings to stakeholders and donors.
• Lead field research expeditions to collect hydrological data in diverse terrains.
• Provide technical guidance to junior researchers and field technicians.

Required Skills

• Expertise in hydrological modeling software such as MODFLOW, SWAT, or HEC-RAS.
• Advanced proficiency in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and remote sensing techniques.

• Exceptional technical writing and ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to non-experts.

Education

A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Geosciences, or a closely related field is required. A PhD in a specialized Earth Science field is highly preferred.

Experience

Candidates must demonstrate at least 7 years of professional experience in hydrological modeling, preferably within a conservation or international development context. Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa is a significant advantage. We are looking for individuals who have a proven track record of successful project implementation and scientific rigor.

Salary
