Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Irrigation Engineer to join our technical team in Mchinji. This role is critical to our operations in Malawi, as you will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of complex irrigation systems for large-scale commercial farms and smallholder cooperatives. The successful candidate will act as a technical authority, ensuring that all irrigation infrastructure meets international standards for efficiency and durability. This position involves a mix of field-based site assessments and office-based technical design, requiring a deep understanding of hydraulics, soil science, and water management principles. As we expand our footprint, this role will play a pivotal part in our mission to provide sustainable water solutions across the country.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and supervise the installation of advanced drip and sprinkler irrigation systems tailored to specific crop requirements.
- Conduct comprehensive site surveys, including soil analysis and topographical mapping, to determine optimal system layouts.
- Perform hydraulic calculations to ensure uniform water distribution and pressure regulation across all zones.
- Provide technical support and training to field technicians and local farming clients.
- Manage the technical lifecycle of projects, from initial feasibility studies to final commissioning and maintenance scheduling.
- Collaborate with the sales and procurement teams to ensure technical specifications align with client needs and inventory availability.
Required Skills
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD software for irrigation system design.
- Deep understanding of fluid mechanics, hydraulics, and water resource management.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to lead multi-disciplinary field teams.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities regarding complex technical challenges.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with both high-level stakeholders and local farmers.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field is mandatory. Professional certification in water management or irrigation technology is highly preferred.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in irrigation system design and implementation is required. Proven experience working in the African agricultural sector is a significant advantage. Candidates must demonstrate a track record of managing large-scale technical projects from conception to completion.
Salary
The monthly salary for this position ranges from 850,000 SSP to 1,200,000 SSP, depending on experience and technical expertise.
