Job Overview

The Social Impact Monitoring Officer will play a pivotal role in measuring, analyzing, and reporting on the outcomes of UNDP‑funded programmes across the country. Reporting directly to the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Manager, the officer will design robust monitoring frameworks, collect high‑quality data, and translate findings into actionable insights for policymakers, donors, and programme teams. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and refine logical frameworks, indicators, and data collection tools for UNDP programmes.
• Lead field data collection, verification, and quality assurance processes across multiple districts.
• Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to assess programme effectiveness, impact, and sustainability.
• Prepare comprehensive monitoring reports, dashboards, and policy briefs for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with government ministries, NGOs, and community groups to ensure alignment of monitoring activities with national priorities.
• Provide technical support and capacity‑building workshops for partner organisations on MEL best practices.
• Contribute to the design of adaptive management strategies based on evidence generated from monitoring activities.
• Maintain the MEL database, ensuring data integrity, confidentiality, and timely updates.
• Support the preparation of donor reports and compliance documentation.

Required Skills

• Advanced proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R) and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and communicate findings clearly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Chichewa is an advantage.
• Experience in designing surveys, focus group discussions, and participatory monitoring methods.
• Project management expertise, including planning, budgeting, and stakeholder coordination.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in challenging field environments.
• High ethical standards, with a commitment to data privacy and gender‑sensitive approaches.

Education

The successful candidate must hold a Master’s degree in Development Studies, Economics, Social Sciences, Public Policy, or a closely related discipline. Relevant certifications in Monitoring & Evaluation, Impact Assessment, or Data Science are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants should have a minimum of five years of professional experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning within international development contexts. Experience working with UN agencies, NGOs, or government ministries in Malawi or the broader Southern African region is preferred.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary is paid monthly and includes statutory benefits as per Malawian labour law.
