Job Overview

The Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Compliance Officer will lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of AML policies and procedures to ensure First Capital Bank Malawi meets regulatory standards and international best practices. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and enforce AML policies, procedures, and controls in line with the Bank of Malawi guidelines and FATF recommendations.
  • Conduct thorough customer due diligence (CDD), enhanced due diligence (EDD), and ongoing monitoring of high‑risk accounts.
  • Analyze transaction patterns using advanced analytics tools to identify suspicious activity and prepare SAR (Suspicious Activity Report) filings.
  • Lead AML training programs for staff across all levels, ensuring awareness of regulatory changes and internal protocols.
  • Collaborate with the Risk Management team to integrate AML risk assessments into the overall enterprise risk framework.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of global AML trends, sanctions regimes, and emerging typologies of financial crime.
  • Prepare regular compliance reports for senior management and regulators, highlighting key findings and remediation actions.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and other regulatory bodies during examinations and investigations.

Required Skills

  • Deep understanding of AML legislation, sanctions, and counter‑terrorism financing (CTF) regulations.
  • Proficiency with AML monitoring systems (e.g., Actimize, SAS AML) and data analytics tools.
  • Strong investigative and analytical abilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report drafting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and lead cross‑functional projects.
  • High ethical standards and discretion in handling confidential information.

Education

The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Professional certifications such as CAMS, Certified Financial Crime Specialist (CFCS), or equivalent are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

A minimum of five years’ experience in AML compliance within a banking environment is required. Candidates with prior exposure to regulatory examinations, SAR preparation, and AML system implementation will be prioritized. Experience in the Malawi banking sector or familiarity with the Bank of Malawi’s regulatory framework is advantageous.

Salary
