Job Overview

This role is critical for ensuring that all humanitarian and development projects implemented by Oxfam in the region adhere to the highest standards of human rights and ethical conduct. The Senior Human Rights Compliance Officer will lead the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of human rights indicators within our diverse project portfolio. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive human rights impact assessments for all new and existing development projects.
• Develop and implement compliance frameworks that align with both Malawian law and international human rights treaties.
• Lead internal audits to ensure field staff and local partners adhere to the organization’s code of conduct.
• Provide technical guidance to program managers on integrating human rights-based approaches into project design.
• Collaborate with local NGOs to strengthen their capacity for human rights monitoring and reporting.
• Prepare detailed compliance reports for regional headquarters and international donors.

Required Skills

• Advanced knowledge of International Human Rights Law and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
• Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex legal frameworks.
• Strong interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders, from government officials to rural community members.
• Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
• High level of integrity and commitment to humanitarian principles.

Education

A Master of Laws (LLM) specializing in International Law or Human Rights is required. A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with significant specialized experience may be considered. Professional certification in compliance or auditing is a plus.

Experience

A minimum of 5 to 7 years of professional experience in human rights law, legal compliance, or international development is essential. Proven experience working in a non-governmental organization (NGO) setting within Sub-Saharan Africa is highly desirable. Candidates must demonstrate a track record of managing complex compliance audits and working in multi-cultural environments.

Salary

The monthly salary for this position ranges from 850,000 SSP to 1,200,000 SSP, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience level.
