Job Overview

The Cybersecurity Threat Intelligence Analyst will join Cisco’s Security Operations Center (SOC) in Mzuzu, playing a pivotal role in identifying, analyzing, and mitigating emerging cyber threats that target both Cisco customers and internal assets. The analyst will collaborate with global threat intelligence teams, local incident response units, and external partners such as the Malawi Computer Emergency Response Team (MZCERT). Responsibilities include monitoring threat feeds, producing actionable intelligence reports, and advising on proactive security measures. Key Responsibilities

• Collect, correlate, and analyze threat data from open‑source, commercial, and internal feeds.

• Collaborate with incident response teams to provide context and recommendations during active cyber incidents.
• Develop and maintain threat profiles, attack‑vector mappings, and mitigation playbooks tailored to the local threat landscape.
• Engage with government agencies, industry peers, and academic institutions to share intelligence and promote best practices.
• Support the creation of security awareness content for internal staff and external partners.
• Continuously refine detection rules and enrich Cisco’s threat intelligence platforms with region‑specific indicators of compromise (IOCs).

Required Skills

• Strong analytical abilities with a deep understanding of malware analysis, phishing tactics, ransomware trends, and advanced persistent threats (APTs).
• Proficiency in using threat intelligence platforms such as Cisco SecureX, Threat Grid, or open‑source tools like MISP.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Familiarity with networking protocols, cloud environments, and endpoint security solutions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multicultural team across different time zones.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH, GCTI, or similar) are highly desirable.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in threat intelligence, digital forensics, or cyber‑risk management will be considered an advantage.

Experience

Candidates should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in threat intelligence, security operations, or incident response. Prior exposure to the African cyber threat landscape, especially within Malawi or neighboring countries, will be viewed favorably.
