Job Overview
The Network Optimization Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and fine‑tuning network solutions that ensure optimal performance, capacity, and reliability for TNM’s mobile and fixed‑line services. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze network performance metrics using OSS/BSS tools to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement optimization plans for radio access networks (RAN), core network, and backhaul infrastructure.
- Collaborate with RF engineers, planners, and vendor partners to fine‑tune parameters, conduct drive tests, and validate enhancements.
- Perform capacity forecasting and traffic modeling to support network expansion and upgrade projects.
- Lead root‑cause analysis of service degradation incidents and propose corrective actions.
- Maintain documentation of network configurations, optimization procedures, and performance reports.
- Ensure compliance with Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) standards and international best practices.
- Participate in cross‑departmental projects, including new product roll‑outs, spectrum refarming, and 5G readiness initiatives.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to knowledge‑sharing sessions.
- Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption strategies to enhance network efficiency.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in network performance analysis tools (e.g., NetAct, TEMS, iPerf).
- In‑depth understanding of LTE, 5G, and core network architectures.
- Experience with radio frequency optimization, handover tuning, and load balancing.
- Ability to interpret KPI dashboards and translate data into actionable insights.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a proactive approach to issue resolution.
- Effective communication skills for interfacing with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation of routine tasks.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing telecommunications in Malawi.

Education
The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline. Advanced certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Nokia Network Optimization, or equivalent are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.
Experience
A minimum of three to five years of hands‑on experience in network optimization, performance engineering, or a similar role within a telecom operator or a major service provider is required. Experience with both mobile and fixed‑line networks, as well as exposure to emerging 5G technologies, will strengthen the application.
Salary
The remuneration package ranges from 1,200,000 to 1,800,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and performance. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a pension scheme.
